I went to radio shack and purchased all the components I need for a circuit. Except a 4.7pF capacitor. It doesn’t have to be exactly 4.7, it said around 4.7pF. I don’t really want to buy 1 dollars worth of something online. Does anyone know what kind of electronic device I could find one in? And how to read the value, or a link to read the value. Also where could i find a small trimmer capacitor, or variable capacitor? What devices, Thanks, Tim

I’m hoping someone can give me a name for this type of part, so I can locate one at Radio Shack or some other electronics store.
I’m building a project that requires an automatic switch of sorts. This will reside within an electric circuit that carries 12 volts DC.
1.When power is supplied to the circuit, the device will allow current to flow normally for a brief time (around 10 seconds or so).
2.After this delay, the device will automatically open the circuit, and keep it open as long as there is current available
3.When circuit is no longer available the switch will close itself again.
Was that clear?
Thanks
More specifically – This is something I want to wire into an annoying but important warning buzzer in my vehicle. Instead of the warning buzzer wailing away incessantly, I want it to STFU after a few seconds of activation.

I have a hard drive enclosure whose USB type B Socket came off of the circuit board. I am looking for a USB type B horizontal socket to solder. I don’t want to waste my hard drive enclosure without giving a try. I tried looking online for this socket but haven’t found any place. I went to radio shack and they have no idea.
Please help!!

Radio Shack?
Circuit board types, is there only one kind?
What Do I need to learn about Transitors Resistors, compasitors ect ect…?
What I need to know if I want to be serious about engineering electronics, or simply to modify an electronic component?
Thanks.

What I am asking is;
I have old electronic devices and I want to replace the guts with newer parts. for example; big resistor with a smaller modern equivalent. a flash tube with whatever will do the same thing.
so… where can I find information on how to find the modern equivalents of the old electronics? How do you know what to replace the part with?
for example; will a 1/4W 10K resistor from radio shack really work to replace a resistor that is rated the same but is three times bigger or does it only work in theory?

Recently, I have taken a liking to building simple electronic circuits using component parts (resistors, capacitors, transistors, IC's, diodes, etc.) and such found at Radio Shack. I have, however, become more skillful, and have moved on to more complex circuits. I am not able to find a lot of the parts that I need (more specifically, a lot of the IC (Integrated Circuits) and similar parts) at Radio Shack. What I am asking is basically this: Does anyone know any online stores where I can buy these types of parts, preferably at a cheap price?
