In the circuit given in the url, can anyone check for me how is C4 connected?I use a 9V battery,should i connect its negative straight to the ground or to the C4 before it goes to ground?This circuit looks simple but i find it confusing
Thank you very much mr mike,Another question i would like to know …are all pin photodiodes the same?can i use a pin photodiode of a different type for this circuit?

If you can’t understand that point, how are you going to cope with the rest? As a concept consider drawing a line between all of the +9V points and another between all of the ground points. The first is the power bus line and the second the ground line/plane. You have now tied up all the connections on the battery and all the connections on C4 and there is no reason to discuss why you might connect the battery to the capacitor.
The open structure shown in the diagram is common because there are so many power points and so many ground points that the lines I had you draw simply confuse the situation.
