I have been interested in building electronic circuits for a long time, but the diagrams would baffle me. i understand a bunch now but i see the ground wire symbol and wonder "what do i do with that?". so if im building a circuit that connects to the battery where do i connect the ground to? the negative end? the actual ground? idk please help!

I am looking to build a simple sound activated switch for my Canon XT DSLR camera. The camera has a jack (3/32" stereo) that is wired in this way –http://farm1.static.flickr.com/146/359549791_83d835b78a.jpg

Hooking up a simple wire to the jack via a plug and closing the circuit will fire the shutter, so the jack has a current running across it. The current its, I think, 3.5V at .5A (i’ll try to confirm that, the lack of a multimeter is yet again haunting me).

I have a decent competency in reading circuit diagrams /soldering. All this has to do is close a circuit once there is a loud sound (Not fire a flash, etc).

My biggest qualm is hooking something with voltage up to a live jack — guides how to modify one of the following circuits would be best, or a separate diagram/description would work too.

guys i have 2 circuit diagrams1)AM transmitter 2)AM receiver.
if i set the resonant frequency to 232mhz in the transmitter .
and if i set the same resonant frequency in the AM receiver circuit
. and if i use a audio amplifier to amplify the sound from the AM receiver
and then instead of connecting the output wire to the loudspeaker if
i connect a RELAY (which is a switch to a motor). and now if i transmit
a high pitch constant voice tone ,does the transmitter transmit it
,and will the receiver receive it and amplify it and will it switch the motor
. please help guys!

fan won't blow, electronic temprature control says it's on, I can hear the flaps move as I change the function. Also the rear glass defrost does not appear to work, even though the light is on, if it's on the same circuit…
there's 2 fuses in box under the hood maked heat, a 15 amp and a 60 amp, both look good, and 2 relays marked heat.
I didn't seem to see relavant fuses in the dashboard fuse block.
Any diagrams where to start?
in the olden days I knew how to check the little resistor coils, but this electronic control has more going on, and it's too cold to just be exploring without a plan.

No variable capacitor inside (see circuit diagram).
I also thought that "L" has something to do with a L-bridge. But "L" and "H" could as well mean High and low….

Actually, i want to operate a relay with the help of C programming language , now the signal through the parllel or serial port will not be enough to drive the relay , so i need an electronic circuit that will accept the signal from the parllel or serial port and them amplify it or process it and make the signal so strong , so that it can further operate the relay. this electronic circuit will contain optocouplar IC in oder to have isolation between relay circuit and Computer,
